Access to water in schools
Almost a third of the world's population still has no access to clean water
In 2012, When we first set up operations in the region, the villages in the Lang-Khang cluster were experiencing real difficulties in accessing water. In 2015, we set up a partnership with Aquassistance, a Lyonnaise des eaux staff association, to assess the work that was needed and establish the feasibility of the projects.
Based on their expertise, the necessary infrastructure was put in place: water towers, cisterns and pumps were initially installed in the four nursery schools of Lang-Khang, Dou, Phone and Phanob. Aquassistance engineers visited the schools three times between 2016 and 2018. We continued to build the necessary structures in the fifth village of Thong-Kham.
An evaluation mission of the work completed in 2018 and a feasibility mission for water access work in new villages took place from 17 to 24 March 2019.
On this basis, in 2020, with funding from Aquassistance, we carried out:
- water access and electrification work in the Thong Xam school group
- electrification work at the Nong No school, with the water access work carried out by LuxDéveloppement (Luxembourg decentralised cooperation)
- Electrification work at the Natchat school.
In 2022, water access works were carried out in Natchat, Naphao and Vang Maner.
Since 2023, the 15 villages of Lang Khang have had access to water all year round, although this may be more limited in some areas during the dry season.
