Sponsoring children
Our local partner, the Beninese association, Les 1000 Lucioles, launched a sponsorship programme in 2008 which has already enabled more than 120 schoolchildren and students to attend school in good conditions!
All the beneficiaries come from Boukoumbé or Natitingou in the north of Benin. The children and their families are identified by the 1000 Lucioles field workers. Particular attention is paid to girls to prevent them from dropping out of school.
What does it mean to be a sponsor?
Sponsoring a child means accompanying them along their educational journey, following and supporting them over the long term. A commitment renewed over at least four years ensures that the children receive lasting support.
What type of sponsorship?
You can choose to support:
* a young child aged between 6 and 11 attending primary school: your annual sponsorship of €210 will cover the child's school fees, meals, medical care and the purchase of a school uniform and stationery,
* a secondary school pupil aged 12 to 18: your annual sponsorship of €310 will cover school fees, meals, medical care, the purchase of a school uniform and school supplies, as well as transport between the village and the town,
* a student studying at one of the country's only two public universities in Cotonou or Parakou. Young people from the north of the country face real difficulties in pursuing tertiary education, particularly, due to the geographical distance and the need to find accommodation. Often coming from poor families, students are then faced with high tuition fees. Your annual sponsorship of €610 will cover the full cost of tuition, meals, medical care, books and supplies.
* a collective sponsorship that benefits all the children in a school. Your sponsorship will help finance infrastructure such as the repair or construction of classrooms, the installation of water points (boreholes or wells), the building of toilets, the purchase of school furniture, support for the running of canteens, etc.
Regardless of the sponsorship formula chosen, a fixed amount of €10 is dedicated to the administration of the sponsorship. The remainder of the donated sum will be spent on the sponsored child's education.
