Feasibility mission in Yen Bai province
Sourires d'Enfants was born in Vietnam. For several years now, we have wanted to re-establish ourselves there and develop new initiatives to promote sustainable access to education and training.
The province of Yen Bai is located in the north of Vietnam, on the border with the province of Phu Tho, where we have been active for ten years. We chose this province because it is linked by a decentralised cooperation agreement to the Val de Marne department, which has co-financed several Sourires d'Enfants projects in Laos. A feasibility mission was carried out in the field from 6 to 18 November 2023 by Victoire Nguyen-Rouault, a member of our Board of Directors, and Anh Tuyêt Nguyen, Assistant Interpreter. Based on the visits and surveys carried out, we identified the school in Khau Ly, a small Hmong village in the commune of Ban Mu, as the location for our first project. In September 2024, Florence Nguyen-Rouault, President of SDE, travelled to Yen Bai with Annie-Claude Baucher, Vice President, and Tulip Senekhanh, a member of our Board of Directors. They were received by the provincial authorities and then visited the villages of Tram Tau and Khau Ly, where we will be supporting a primary school, a middle school and a vocational high school from 2025.
