Laos- A staircase for Khamphao!

Khamphao is a 19-year-old girl living with her parents in the small village of Naphao, a border village between Laos and Vietnam. In 2020, on her way to fetch water from the river, she fell badly, hitting her head on a large stone. Since then, she has lived reclusively in her wooden house on stilts, unable to walk or move around. Her legs gradually atrophied. In November 2024, during a medical mission organized by Sourires d'Enfants, she came to the Lang Khang health center to be examined, astride her father's back. For the first time in 4 years, she met a doctor. Moved by this young girl, the whole team mobilized: major rehabilitation sessions, fitting out her house with temporary indoor ramps, monitoring her progress, accompanying her parents, medical examinations in Thakhek... 🩻🩺👨🏻‍⚕ And Khamphao took his first steps, hesitant at first, a little more confident now. As the diagnosis has not yet been confirmed, we will soon be going with her to Vientiane for further tests. But before that, on the eve of the Laotian New Year, a beautiful gift awaited Khamphao: we replaced the bamboo ladder that led to her house with a staircase with wide steps, handrails and a roof for protection during the rainy season! 👌 Her lovely smile fills us with joy 🤩
