Laos- Minh Tha

We visited MinTha, an 8-year-old boy, in his village of Thong Xam, where we built a school in 2020. He is visually impaired and unable to attend school in the village. He came with his mother to an eye consultation during our medical mission in November 2024 and met Bérengère, a volunteer optician. 👓 After two examinations at the ophthalmology departments of Thakhek Hospital and Savannaketh Hospital in the neighboring province, MinTha's parents received confirmation that he will be permanently blind due to a complication during his mother's pregnancy (caused by toxoplasmosis or rubella contracted during this period). We are supporting his parents in their decision to enroll their son in a school for visually impaired children. They are still hesitant because that would mean he would have to be away from his family and live as a boarder. We will keep you updated on his progress!
