After a first week in the village of Boualapha, our super Franco-Laotian team of doctors, practitioners and translators, more motivated than ever, has just spent a week in the villages of Lang Khang. Hundreds of people came from the 15 villages of the group on foot, tuktuk, motorcycle or moped..., to be examined by the general practitioner, the gynecologists, the dentists, the optician, the chiropractor... Our local team was on hand to translate the consultations and instill confidence in the villagers. Several French doctors also took to the red dirt roads in a tuktuk to visit remote villagers and pupils from several of our schools. The dentists visited Sourires d'Enfants schools to run dental hygiene sessions, distribute toothbrushes and detect any cavities or other ailments that needed treating! By the end of the two-week medical mission, nearly 2,000 free consultations had been carried out with villagers of all ages, women and men, children and babies! A young man of 18 benefited from a cleft lip operation, a teenager who had been paralyzed for 3 years received a diagnosis... The examples and encounters were numerous. Many went home with their teeth cured, treated or pulled, or with eyeglasses that fit their eyes. Young women received ultrasound scans, advice and consultations... It was also, and above all, a wonderful human adventure between this fine French team and our Laotian team on site, the nurses and professionals at the health centers, the local people, the children...
